movies madness

Have been rather busy these few weeks? busy doing what? work, tuition, go out and the cycle continues. haven got the chance to have one day where i can just sleep till i wake up automatically.

watched 2 movies last week which i am too lazy to blog about then. First was Letters From Iwo Jima. A fresh look at a war story, this time round from the japanese side. What's disturbing is the spirit of the jap soldiers, and they rather die in glory than to return home defeated. The story however, follows through a character who does not want to die. he wants to return home to his family. Most of the war movies depicts soldiers that go to war as heroes, who will fight bravely and die in battle. However, this movie goes the other way, showing how the main character saigo, who was being forced to join the army, just wanting to stay alive. Frankly speaking, how many people out there are really going to like, willing to die in battle. the saying 先有国,才有家, but how many bear to just leave the family behind and fight a war. It is really hard to strike a balance between the 2 extremes. I like the slow pace of the show, yet it is engaging enough to not make you fall asleep.

another movie about war, 300, where it shows how 300 spartans fight out against the persians. the whole story isn't tat nice, but the scenes of soldiers fighting sort of make up for the plot. it is different from letters as it is much more fast paced. It did not leave me with a lasting impression compared to letters, but the movie was still worth it for entertainment sake.
and i haven catch dreamgirls yet. no one wants to come along with me.... i guess i'll go alone or wait for the vcd to be released.
