finally after 3 weeks of waiting, the 3 part special of grey's anatomy has come to an end. yeap, i know meredith won't die, cause the show won't be called grey's anatomy if the producers killed her. imagine yang's anatomy??

so the answer i was waiting for this episode was, how is meredith gonna wake up? after watching ep 17, i did some research on the net and found this.

The body's reaction to submersion
Submerging the face in water triggers the mammalian diving reflex. This is found in all mammals, and especially in marine mammals such as whales and seals. This reflex is designed to protect the body by putting it into energy saving mode to maximize the time it can stay under water. The effect of this reflex is greater in cold water than in warm water and has three principal effects:

  • Bradycardia, a slowing of the heart rate of up to 50% in humans.
  • Peripheral Vasoconstriction, the restriction of the blood flow to the extremities to increase the blood and oxygen supply to the vital organs, especially the brain.
  • Blood Shift, the shifting of blood to the thoracic cavity, the region of the chest between the diaphragm and the neck, to avoid the collapse of the lungs under higher pressure during deeper dives.

The reflex action is automatic and allows both a conscious and an unconscious person to survive longer without oxygen under water than in a comparable situation on dry land.

Drowning victims should be treated even if they have been submerged for a long time. The rule "no patient should be pronounced dead until warm and dead" applies. Children in particular have a good chance of survival in water up to 3 minutes, or 10 minutes in cold water (10 to 15 C or 50 to 60 F). Submersion in cold water can slow the metabolism drastically. There are rare but documented cases of survivable submersion for extreme lengths of time. In one case a child survived drowning after being submerged in cold water for 70 minutes. In another, an 18 year old man survived 38 minutes under water. This is known as cold water drowning.

it was rather nice to see denny, dylan (the bomb squad guy), ellis grey scurb nurse, and bonnie. i could not remember who bonnie was, and then i remembered she was the guy stuck with anothe guy with a pole through their abdomen. the surgeons had to give up on her due to excessive bleeding after the pole was pulled up and meredith, being new, had to literally watch her die. i guess there is a 'guilt' part in meredith.

one thing i learnt about, john doe n jane doe are actually used to call someone whose identity's is unable to be verified.

they say tigers are supposed to be lucky this year. but looking at my losing during CNY, it ain't happening to me. lose quite a lot of money, but not my entire hongbao money (i got less $ this yr). to quote irene '从初一输到初三', for me it is '从初一输到初七'. I think i shld cut all mahjongs and poker for this yr. gonna take a last chance by buying the toto hongbao draw.

been hell of a busy week. visiting here and there. from this relative to that relative, i am like super sian. really, cny has lost it's lusture for me. Now, apart from the holiday, break from work, i really don't find CNY any special. Think i gonna try to siam overseas next yr. it's just no one wants to come along with me. think cny is gonna get worse when i get older, cause i gonna be bombarbed with questions like 'when r u getting a gf?' ' when r u getting married' and so on...

had a great time yest when the s07 gang came over to my hse. played mahjong. had lots of food. talk cock. really a great time spent. and almost all in our gang came. and of course i learnt a great deal of knowledge from our gambling queen, associate prof lee pei ling, phd in gambling specialising in mahjong. upgraded my knowledge from level 2000 to level 3000. hehe

i am like now super broke. on top of all the losing, the midnight k session with colleagues has dimished my money for even more. thank god for the hongbaos my students' mum gave, plus the fees. gonna be able to survive till the next pay day.
what's up next? Letter From Iwo jiwa. i so gonna catch this movie. if no one wanna come with me, i shall go on my own! my movie kaki is now down under. heard from him all the horror stories. well pal, jia you, life's gonna get better. get to know that nj gal better. maybe...

so in a blink of an eye, CNY is finally here. Not that i am looking forward to the festival, it's just that i want a nice break from work. so this yr we are only getting 4 days. ok, better than nothing. so i shall not complaint. plus, i am paid for 2 days which i am not working. hehe...

yest work was a bit crazy. never in my past 2 mth in the company have i had so much work. So i was there, doing doing doing doing and then, haha, bell rang, time's up. and yest everyone in IMD is so on. all wear red. and so we look like big red hongbaos walking round the office. during meeting, the chairs in the meeting room is also red, plus our 2 ITSG staff (indians) are also wearing red.

I look damm nerdy in my specs!!!! shld have removed them...

And when i got home, it was a last minute rush with mum to buy things. NTUC is just so choked up. and back home, it was area cleaning (army lingo). threw away more things from my room. and i realise something. what is the thing on your desk that trap the most dust? ans: ur keyboard. i was simply amazed at how dirty that thing is upon closer inspection. so after all the hastle, i just cloapsed in bed.

went to meet up with yz for the last time b4 he fly off. so sian. one of my best fren gone. one less person to go jalan jalan with me. known him since sec 1, and tat is like 8 yrs of friendship. anyway bro, thanks for all the gd time. Hope we will still keep in touch even though you are down under. Take care. study hard, play hard!

and to all reading. Happy CNY! 猪(祝)你新年快乐 !

Next wk is CNY, and i still have not bought some new clothes. Despite going shopping yest, it is just so hard buying things, cause everywhere is so damm crowded and those stores which are not crowded has stuff that are too expensive (i guess that explains for the less crowd). I guess i shall stop by tmr or tue after work for some serious peaceful shopping. worse come to worse, i just put on any shirt that look decently new. Seriously, it wld be best if i cld just escape overseas to 'bi nian'. Just dun feel like visiting those relatives one by one. I dun mind those immediate families, but those distant one, i just couldn't be bothered. Don't even recognise. Like what i always said, if they were sitting next to me on the bus, i wouldn't even know them. I think mum also doesn't intend to visit them this yr so yeah! good.

really, CNY has lost its appeal over the years. Perhaps it's just me or does everyone else feel the same?

and yes, i am going to talk abt my fav show yet again, Grey's Anatomy. and damm it! it ended at a cliffhanger again!!! read that it's gonna be a 3-part special. oh crap, maybe i shld just wait until the other 2 are out (which means 2 weeks) and watch them at one go. Sometimes, i feel so inspired by the show that i want to become a doctor, a nurse, a paramedic whatever to save lives. Perhaps why i like that show so much could be due to my little medical background, and that helped in understanding some medical terms. It actually made me want to find out more about some of the amazing procedures performed in the show. also all the dark humour in the show. yz, if u are reading this, I strongly recommed you the show. Hope it could inspire you in your studies n career.

ok, i thought about it. gonna change the layout of this blog with grey's anatomy. i shall slowly go figure it out.

so many random thoughts in my mind now....

i always thought CNY is still far away. looking at the calender, it is less than 2wks away. one more weekend to prepare all the stuff b4 the actual festival. My rooms is still rather chaotic despite the makeover. Just too lazy to go do a proper packing up.

went chinatown with my parents yest. the CNY bazzar is just so freaking crowded, shoulder against shoulders. did not really buy much, but more to experiencing the atmosphere. It is after this that i started to get into CNY mood, if not everyday is just like a normal day. And i realise that things down there are so freaking expensive. the 'mua chee' cost 1.80/100g, and tat only amts to like a pahetic 5 packs? and the 'gua zi' costs $5 for 500g, also ex. hello, GST has not gone up yet...

and about PSS2, it was a freaking boring show. performance was lack lusture, plus all the funny funny things in between, what taekuando (tat was the lamest thing). Tat's y i was channel surfing. sin vs thai on ch 5. i did not catch tat goal, but after i saw the score at 1-1 towards the end of the match, i knew sin wld win liao. and one more thing abt PSS, the stylist n make up artist ought to be shot. darren face reminds me of michael jackson, and diya's chicken head did not go off well with her.

beside pss n the soccer match, i was also watching girls out loud on youtube. thanks to yz for recommending me to it. When i first saw it on tv, i turned it off almost immediately cause xiaxue's eng is simply a major turn off. but after watching a while, i realise the crazy ethics of the 2 girls simply makes you roar out in laughter. roslyn is such a witty host. reminds me of The Simple Life.

and i am so looking forward to Dreamgirls. The soundtrack is simply great. Lots of groove moving tracks. n jennifer hudson is wow...

I was super dupa sian when the moment the tester told me i failed my tp. yup. i buang my tp test. stupid stupid mistake. during training, i always have no problem with my parallel parking, and during the test, it actually caused me a immediate failure. argh!!! that was why i was super depressed for the past 2 days. till now, i don't have seem to get past it. my confidence level was at a super high before the test. even ah tan was saying gd things abt my driving, but yet.. haizzz. perhaps i was too nervous. the steering wheel was all wet with my sweat frm my hands. ok, thinking abt the gd side, at least i know what it feels like to be in a test, and i hope the next time i won't be such a nervous wreck. anyway, people are telling me, fail once nvm lah. most ppl take 2 or more to pass....

this has really spoilt my mood for the whole week. now i don't like going to work, don't feel like going out....

i shall recover by next wk. i must pass the next time round !!!!!!
